The Big Red Suitcase

   Hello, here is another story of mine! This time however,  I thought I’ll just write an interesting story without any important moral and is mostly just to fun to read. Hope you like it!

                                                                     The Big Red Suitcase

It was still there. Susan had been observing it since the past 2 months now. She found it in a dry forest near her house and ever since that she had been visiting it everyday in the late afternoon. A big red suitcase is something which is usually accompanied by a human, but instead it was accompanied by a dog! This is what she found to be more strange. 

The dog had been there along with the suitcase for the past whole month. Questions like how did it survive? Why was it there with the suitcase? Or in fact why was it left randomly in the middle of the forest  were racing through the mind of the girl. She could have taken a better look at both of them initially but she did not think it will be there for so long and she didn’t do it right then as she had started getting a feeling that it wasn’t just a normal dog and was possibly a ghost! 

The suitcase was rather huge and hence she thought it might be containing something. She thought about looking inside it while the dog went somewhere but whenever she looked she could always find the dog nearby and hence, mostly out of fear she chose not to. 

One day, however, during the time she was observing the suitcase she could hear some footsteps. Susan hid herself behind a bush. Soon enough she could see a man walking closer to the suitcase and the dog. He came closer, took the dog and the suitcase and was going back. At that very moment Susan was thinking how could the man just take the dog and the suitcase and just leave like that ?

She wanted an answer and wanted to know and hence she let her curiosity get her and asked the man out loud, “How can you take the dog and the suitcase like that? Does it even belong to you? I have been observing it since 2 months now and no one came for it either. Is it really yours ?” The man was surprised to find someone observing the whole scene from afar, however he smiled. 

He started, “ Yes. This suitcase is mine and so is this dog. I used to own a successful business. However, it all got ruined and I was left with nothing. I had lost my wife some years before all this and a ruby necklace of hers was the last and the most precious thing I had left of hers and I wanted to keep it safe. If I kept it with me and the circumstances were harsh, I might have had the urge to sell it. Hence, to keep it safe and to avoid that, I kept it inside this suitcase. You might be wondering why, inside such a huge suitcase when I possibly could’ve hung it around my dog’s neck. That’s because it might have attracted unwanted attention and possibly even thieves who would have stolen it easily. Now as for my dog, he’s the only one with me, he’s family to me. I wasn’t financially well to do then, so I couldn’t afford to keep my dog with me.My dog is a unique one, he loves to eat carrots, so with the little money I had, I used some, to buy some carrots and hid it secretly under that rock. My dog also guarded my suitcase in a way or else possibly even you would have opened it! So, I’ve always had a fear of being all alone so I could never forget my dog and my scent from my suitcase ensured that my dog never forgot me.” 

After ensuring that Susan was satisfied with his answer, the man walked away. Susan was quiet for a moment and couldn’t  think of anything else, but after a minute smiled with satisfaction and went back home. This is how the mystery of the Big Red Suitcase was solved!
